Efficiency regulation is reshaping the distribution transformer market. The EU's Eco-design Tier 2 requirements, along with tightening standards in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, are pushing utilities and developers toward low-loss designs, including amorphous-core units that cut no-load losses by around 70%. While purchase prices carry a premium, total cost of ownership strongly favors high-efficiency units given 30-year service lives and round-the-clock energization. Suppliers able to document losses through accredited laboratory testing are winning an increasing share of international tenders.
